Would you like to enjoy a home-made Kaspressknödel soup in a peaceful environment, while enjoying an awesome view over Innsbruck?
If I do, I go to my favourite place to relax in Innsbruck, the Höttinger Alm. The best way to get there is to you start off at the Hungerburg station. You can either cycle up with a mountain bike on the trail or hike. There are a couple of different ways, including shortcuts, to walk up to the Höttinger Alm. It takes between an hour and two to get there, depending on how fast you hike. Along the way you can enjoy a gorgeous view over Innsbruck.
At the Höttinger Alm you can eat delicious home-made food for reasonable prices whilst relaxing and enjoying the view and peace. Don’t forget to watch your food because the donkey that is living there might try to eat it.
There is also the possibility to stay overnight. One night in a shared room costs €17, including breakfast.
If you prefer an easy and short trail, I can recommend the walk to Arzler Alm. It is situated about 20 – 40 minutes away from the Hungerburg station. This place is a very popular destination for locals, some hike there every weekend if the weather is fine. Also here they serve very tasty, typical Tyrolean food. I usually have a coffee and a delicious home-made cake.
This place can sometimes also be visited in the evening, because there are special events going on. In October and November they offer Törggelen. Originally it’s a South Tyrolean tradition and you enjoy a multi-course meal with your friends and have a glass of wine to go with it. Last year I celebrated a friend’s birthday there and we were served as much mouth-watering home-made food as we desired, including bread with typical savoury spread, soup, a variety of dumplings, chestnuts and a desert. Additionally the waiters were really friendly.
Another event that is offered is a weekly barbeque evening which takes place in June, July and August, provided that the weather is fine. I haven’t tried that myself yet, but this summer I definitely want to enjoy a barbeque there.
